cover letter

Tayla                                                                        Cover letter

As a new graduate I have been hoping to find the type of position you are staffing and have the type of background and interests that would fit the job.  Taking all my sciences throughout school was something I found a passion in as well as doing well in it.  I have taken art for 4 years now inside and out of school.  Being creative as well as improving on a certain technique is something that really interests me and something I love improving on.  Staying active in my community and school with the groups I am involved in as well as sports teams I find important.

My strengths of having compassion, creativity, and perseverance are what have really been my main qualities that lead me to my main interests in life.  Having compassion towards people is what makes me want to work in the health field someday or become a teacher, I find it comes easily with time to connect with people and make a difference in their life.  Being creative with my art is something I have a great interest in.  The day I had my first painting put up in a studio and the day when I sold my first was a time when I felt a great deal of accomplishment.

My goals that I want to achieve in life are to keep up with what I’m passionate about to not quite when I know I can keep working hard at something that can turn out great.  I want to try and be successful in what I do, not just career wise but know that every little thing I have done I can be proud of.  And when I look back on my life I will know that I have achieved my goals

Ms. Watchingu:

My name is Tayla Sno and I have been enjoying my time working at “Student Pro Painters”.  I very much enjoy painting myself and so getting a job here was something I was very excited about.  Considering the company’s exceptional reputation I am wanting to continue keeping it that way during the time I spend working here.  And that is why I want to address a couple of the problems we may be coming across more often if we don’t find a solution with it now.

I am aware that your nephew Joe Talksalot has been working at the company for quite some time and it must be such a pleasure to work for the family business for the time he has.  Being that we all often try to work together as a team, as much as possible to get the job done quicker; I have noticed that Joe may be inefficient with his work at times.  And I understand a majority of the workers have very busy lives outside of work which may lead us to get off task thinking about our own problems, but I feel for the workers who often have to stay later finishing up unfinished tasks when Joe goes home early or when he arrives late.

We try to be as efficient as we can with our work so that the customers are getting good service and after taking our lunch break making sure we then get back on task.  But I have recently noticed that not only Joe, but some of the other workers have caught on to leaving their cigarette butts around and taking more breaks then needed.

In order to keep up our good reputation we may want to consider having some extra assistance in maybe extra training for some of the workers to take a work safety course.  More training may lead them to be more passionate about their job and the great customer service we want to keep up; or to decide that this job may not be for them anymore.

Either way I would like you to consider some of the issues I have brought up here and if you are wanting to address any of them to any of the workers I am sure it would result in an even better outcome in the way this business runs.  Even discussing this with your nephew Joe, he may take an interest in furthering his training.  Please do not hesitate to give me a call or if you are wanting to get together some time to talk about the problems that I have observed to be occurring at work.

Thank you,

Tayla Sno

Tayla                           Certain events change our impression of life

Robotically the automatic doors opened and closed allowing the flow of people to immerge into the latest deals the stores had to offer.  My sight obscured by tiny flakes of snow and the wind that burned against my exposed skin.  With three things on my list I planned to check them off quickly and make my way back home to get on with my homework.  It’s bad enough coming to the grocery store doing jobs that my parents should have done.  Looping my fingers through the mesh bag of oranges I pick the first cucumber I see and make my way to the cash register.

I eye the last item on my list and pick up a bag of pistachios placing them with my produce and fold up the list.  Second in line I stand placing each corner perfectly in line with the other trying to make little triangles until I am interrupted by a man yelling at the woman standing motionless at the till.  I am so surprised by this and the lady doesn’t even make a noise; I want to scream yell at the man when I notice that she is deaf but I stand there just as stunned as her staring at the white tile floor guiltily.  She stays silent.  I stay silent.

He says this is “horrible customer service, there shouldn’t be people like you working here”.

Grumbling to himself the man leaves with a huff.  Taking my eyes off the floor I lift my eyes to the woman standing before me, giving an apologetic smile to her as she picks up my oranges placing them on the scanner and types in a memorized code.  I felt bad, I could have at least said something but instead I was too stunned to speak.  And it got me thinking, is this really what we get upset with now days?  Getting through the line quickly so we can rush home pack our bags for another Wednesday night hockey practice.  To be trapped within our own list of daily tasks and things we need done.  People like Helen Keller have risen above the disabilities they have and have gone to school, been given jobs and haven’t let that stop them from living their lives.

She placed the items in the bag and rang up my total.  I handed her a crinkled up ten dollar bill and took my change leaving not only with my groceries but a heavy heart.

Parallel Structure

                Tayla                                              Parallel Structure

I am smart.  One time I wrote a math quiz and failed.  So I took the re-quiz and passed.  One hundred percent.  Some say I’m kind of like Hannah Montana but not at the same time.  I can’t sing but I’m blonde.  Without the blonde wig.  Old ladies call me mature.  Mom calls me responsible.  My boyfriend calls me a pain in the ass.  But we don’t have a donkey.  I am a rebel.  I don’t log off my Facebook, I watch 18A movies and I’m only 16.  Some say I’m kind of like Rebecca Black but not at the same time.  I can sing better than her and we’re probably both blonde.  I tend to not look the Wal-Mart greeters in the eye.  They dress scary and it’s not even Halloween.  I am smart.  Halloween is on October 31st.

My hair isn’t that big, probably because it’s not full of secrets.  I’m a trustworthy person.  They gave me the wrong report card one year, so I looked and never told anyone that Megan Blair failed socials.  Regina George is my best friend.  On Wednesday we wear pink.  Last Friday I told her I was a hairdresser, gave her a recognizable bowl cut that’s for sure.  I told my Mom I want to be a sue chef, made her death by chocolate and she’s still breathing folks.  Saturday I went to the dollar twenty five store and got in a fight with the cashier.  Always stand up for what you believe in.  I believe it should be a dollar store.

Smart?  Am I smart?  You tell me.  Because I’m telling you that when I was in preschool my teacher came over and asked me for help.  I was in charge of show and tell.  One time I tried writing a college application turns out we were never sending it to a college.

Tayla                                                    Expository Essay

To continue learning throughout our lives means expanding our knowledge on an infinite amount of subjects and the world around us.  Where would we be but within our own little bubble of common knowledge if we never had the desire to keep on learning.  Learning doesn’t necessarily mean school learning but the experiences we go through and the things we learn in life on a daily basis.  Would you really want to stay static like a human fossil with only the knowledge that you have today?  Think of all the languages you could practice, the books you haven’t read and the instruments you could play.

In order reach our own maximum potential we must deepen our knowledge in the world around us.  Every day we have the opportunity to learn whether it be in school a new job or how to use an iPhone.  Learning keeps us invested in life, sharp.  Ever notice how the ones learning are so full of life and cheerful? Little kids are learning so much every single day, adults who may be in their 4th year of university for a medical degree are learning everyday but everyday your aging and when your old you need something to keep you going people turn to what they don’t know in life a new sport, an art and try to gain knowledge or skill in something.  Michael Jordan one of the most well-known players in the NBA left school to play basketball however after all his success in life was not enough for him, he went back to North Carolina and earned his degree in Geography.  James Franco best known for his acting in all three spider man movies earned his honors degree in English in 2008 and is currently working toward his Master of Fine Arts in writing at Columbia University.

Whether you are pleased with the job you have or not many people decide to go back to school and continue learning throughout their lives; it is important because life is about change.  Why would we ever do anything if nothing grew, relationships and no promise of improvement? And that is why it is important to keep learning throughout life because without growth we are stuck in the same place.

"I will find my way to the Pacific to the island known as Kona a fist of white stones and I will write you like the poem that you are".  Carrie Rudzinski has a way with words in her poem "Open Letter To The Last Person I Will Ever Love", as she speaks of her adoration towards her last love.  She enunciates each special thing in a way that leaves you with a feeling what she has felt  "you are the only voice in the night I will ever call back to", "you are everything and nothing like what I have waited for" and in the end she says she has "a hope that I'd never dream of you so I am constantly discovering what I have".
Sarah Kay starts off with a line from Richard Siken's poem by saying "everybody needs a place; it shouldn't be inside someone else" and so as she goes on to perform her poem she is trying to give off the message of being smarter then some people may make you feel, knowing your boundaries and to "not mistake yourself for a gurdian" beacuse you can be stonger and "you were born to build".

Captain Van Camp

Commander

HMS Princess Margaret

O Captain, My Captain:

Harsh decision, difficult one to…but really it’s not.  I deserve to keep circulation oxygen through my respiratory system  because with me dead there will be one less person listening to the Beatles, one less employee working at Starbucks (and I need to give my two weeks’ notice).  I am 130 pounds of pure beauty; I am scheduled for a meeting next week with one of the top modeling agencies in the world so with me alive I can make me and the surviving crew loaded. Walking into my house would be like a lush green jungle of doe. Some of it a reward for sparing my life. You and your family will never have to work another day in your life.  Harkamal, yah she wants to be a doctor but let’s be honest who’s going to make a bigger difference in lives with the cures my money will be finding. Besides the looks, I am going to school for nursing and will be hands on with everything my donations go towards. So the question is, is this really a difficult decision?

Sincerely,
